Summer Sexuality Series:

Body Talk: Identifying and Working with Body Narratives in Sex Therapy

with Suzanne Iasenza, PhD

Wednesdays, June 1, 8, 15, 22, 2022; 1:45-3:15pm EST on Zoom

6 Continuing Education Credits Available The Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Mental Health Practitioners as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed psychoanalysts, licensed social workers, licensed mental health counselors, licensed marriage and family therapists, and licensed psychologists. These programs meet the requirements of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists(AASECT) and are approved for CE credits. These CE credits may be applied toward AASECT Certification and renewal of certification. Psychotherapists are learning to appreciate the notion that “the body keeps the score” as esteemed trauma specialist Bessel van der Kolk contends. How do we integrate such awareness into psychotherapy as we work with sexuality concerns? This year’s Summer Sexuality Series will discuss how to identify and utilize body narratives with individuals and couples. Case material will include examples of racializing, objectifying, and vilifying cultural body narratives that impact sexual development. About the Presenter: Suzanne Iasenza is a practicing psychologist who specializes in and writes on topics such as human sexuality, sex therapy for individuals and couples, sexual orientation and gender identity. She is on the faculties of the Ackerman Institute for the Family, Adelphi University’s Derner Institute Postgraduate Program in Psychoanalysis, and the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy in NYC, where she also serves as Co-Director of the Sex Therapy Training Program (STC). She offers study/consultation groups and individual consultation for mental health professionals. She has a private practice in psychotherapy and sex therapy in New York City.
